Big Sur: Road trip along Pacific Coast Highway

Buckle up and enjoy the ride ! We are on our way to one of the greatest road of the West Coast, a Californian must see: The Highway 1 along the Pacific Ocean.

Lucky us, the Big Sur is only thee hours of drive from San Francisco. Not a big deal. The best place for a romantic trip or a quiet retreat.

DON’T MISS:

• Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park : After a mini-trail you will arrive at the iconic Big Sur waterfall: McWay Waterfall. You can’t get close and go down to the beach, but at least anyone is on your photos!
• Point Lobos : Located in Carmel, Point Lobos is a natural reserve offering several trails. I highly recommend China Cove trail and the beauty of the turquoise water.
• Bixby Bridge : One of the most famous bridge of California (after the Golden Gate, of course!). This bridge crosses a Canyon and overlooks the Pacific Ocean, this spot will literally blow you away.
• Elephant Seal vista point : Do you smell that smelly smell ? Hundreds of massive Elephants Seals!

GOOD TO KNOW :

• Back to basics, buy a real map! Don’t plan to use your mobile phone or any navigation app (like google map!): There is absolutely no data available during the entire trip. So plan ahead !
• Big Sur (and California in generally) is a popular destination, on the to-do-list of many visitors. As beautiful as it gets, never forget that Big Sur is a tourist trap. Everything is expensive: food, gas, hotel.
• Make reservations !

Lastly: There is no rush. Slow down, take a big breathe and enjoy the beauty of Mother Earth.
